What is the most suitable clothing for riding a motorcycle? There is a wide range of items and apparel available and recommended for all motorcyclists. It’s important to know that within the motorcycle clothing market, there are specific outfits depending on the type of motorcycle and its use. In this way, motorcycle clothing can be divided among profiles within sport bikes, city bikes, off-road, or touring bikes.

The theory is well known. Most riders are aware of the importance of wearing protective gear, but not all use it. Studies on accident rates show that up to 80% of motorcyclists do not wear appropriate and safe equipment.

When riding a motorcycle, it is important to remember that the body is very exposed in the event of accidents. Specifically, in 70% of two-wheeled vehicle accidents, injuries occur.

To prevent this, and to minimize injuries as much as possible, wearing a helmet is mandatory to protect the head. However, the body can also sustain injuries, wounds, and impacts that can be reduced by the proper use of specific protective clothing. Four main factors should be considered when purchasing clothing for safe riding: comfort, safety, effectiveness, and price.

Helmet

Regardless of whether the motorcycle has a small engine or a high-powered motor, the helmet is indispensable. It is currently the only piece of clothing legally required for riders. There is a wide variety of helmets available on the market, from full-face models to helmets with openings for better ventilation. Depending on the characteristics and use of the motorcycle, one type may be recommended over another. Make sure the helmet is high-quality, made from durable materials, and fits perfectly to the head.

Jacket

Contrary to what some may think, wearing a motorcycle jacket offers great protection in case of accidents. It should be a jacket that covers the entire torso and is equipped with appropriate padding on the elbows, arms, and back or neck in the event of falls. Choose one that is durable and, if possible, in bright, reflective colors.

Gloves

Although not mandatory, gloves are highly recommended for riding, both in summer and winter. These gloves come with rigid sections to protect the hands at all times. They should be used in all seasons and weather conditions, with lighter models available for summer and others designed for colder days. All of this serves to protect the hands, ensuring maximum grip and comfort during trips or training.

Pants

Motorcycle pants share similar characteristics with jackets. They are highly recommended, and models for riders are designed with protection in weaker areas, always using materials that are resistant to impacts and abrasions from the asphalt. This type of garment is always recommended, or at least avoid riding in shorts, especially on long trips.

Footwear

The motorcycle footwear market also offers a wide range of models to suit individual preferences and intended use. That’s why there are specialized models for travel, urban commuting, or with a sporty look. Above all, they should be comfortable, cover the entire foot, and provide good ankle protection.
